Organizational Planning and  New Service Models

Institutions must rethink and revise service models from time to time to:

  • pursue new learning and research initiatives,
  • realize efficiencies,
  • adopt new products and services available in the marketplace,
  • respond to newly identified needs and expectations.

In addition to new modes of internal operation, new service models may include:

  • collaborative ventures with other institutions and other “shared service” arrangements,
  • innovative relationships with outside suppliers.

Organizational challenges posed by the implementation of new service models can be formidable, especially because they change established routines and structures.

Leading by Design works with managers to identify the organizational challenges to be overcome and develop appropriate implementation plans, including effective project management.

Leading by Design helps the organization design and develop:

  • measurable objectives and outputs,
  • clearly defined roles and responsibilities for implementation and for ongoing operations,
  • redeployed staff and budget resources,
  • necessary new systems and procedures,
  • training programs,
  • issue management processes,
  • communication plans.
